Retromobile Paris 2019

Retromobile proved itself once again to the top classic car trade show. The organizers must have been extremely happy with record numbers of visitors attending.

This year was different for me from previous years as I brought a wonderful original ex works Maserati 250F from the United States which I showed at the stand of my friends Auxietre & Schmidt. This rare and historically important Maserati Grand Prix racecar was without any question one of the highlights of the show attracting collectors from across the globe. We were located across the stand from the watch manufacturer Richard Mille who brought some cars out of his outstanding Formula 1 racecar collection. The Maserati 250F could have been a great addition to that collection and was very well placed being admired by many of Richard Mille’s guets.

 

My friends Laurent Auxietre and Christoph Schmidt showed an Aston Martin DB4 GT, a Ferrari 275GTB Shortnose and a Ferrari F40 which found a new home before the end of the show.

Many other dealers from across Europe brought a wide variety of classic and collector cars from vintage cars from the Brass era to ultra modern Super cars. One private French collector rented a large space only to show his wonderful collection of various Citroen DS with special coachwork. This was definitely a magnet for the French public.

As I was on the stand from mornings until closing I did miss my opportunity to visit the auctions of Bonhams and RM Sotheby’s which were, as usual, off site while Artcurial was holding their auction as usual within the Retromobile exhibition halls.

 

February might not be the best time to visit Paris but Retromobile is definitely worth traveling to Paris. The city itself put it’s magic spell on everyone visiting. I am already excited about Retromobile 2020 where I will have my own stand for the first time. I hope that all my clients and friends will visit me there.
